On the Minister's Mind

with Rev. Laine Morgan

"Considering the perilous nature of the present moment, we reckon a merry Christmas is nowhere in sight. All the more reason to have a truly deep one instead. And, that all starts by making ourselves into a manger. Christmas is that point in time when the Light of Heaven contradicts the chaos of Earth. Therefore, let us ferociously contradict the Earth as never before by not merely celebrating Christmas but by becoming it instead. The nativity of Christ is the story of God wanting to get inside humanity. Jesus was the prototype for that experiment. Let us avail ourselves accordingly and be the embodiment of God every single day of our worldly lives. Let us, from this moment forward, and without the slightest hesitation, be Christmas." - Evan Hodkins, The School of Alchemy

When I read the above paragraph, the words that jumped out at me were the last two – “Be Christmas!”  I took this question into prayer and meditation - How can I be Christmas?

As Spirit is expressing through me as I interact with the world around me, I am living the Christmas spirit.  In that state of being, I move through my experiences peacefully, joyfully and lovingly with overflowing generosity and kindness.  But it takes practice and awareness to stay there in consciousness.

If Jesus was the prototype of God living through a human being, he set a pretty good example to follow when he extended compassion to the social outcasts of his society, when he loved the unlovable, when he gathered dear friends near, when he acted in generosity, when he resisted government oppression, and when he gave of himself in every way.  Whether you take the story of Jesus literally or figuratively, there is definitely a lesson in his life.

Although the current day seems to be incredibly challenging, humanity will always be evolving through such difficult things.  We can always wish for easier times, but the most empowering choice we can make is to connect faithfully to the Power that is greater than ourselves, for when we do that, we are never alone in any challenge we may face.

This time of year, there is an invitation to deepen your understanding of your relationship to the spark of Divinity within you.  Withdraw from the chaos of the happenings around you, or on the news, and take shelter in the manger of a chosen quiet space to bask in the Light of Heaven shining forth from your very being.  If you follow that star and bring all your gifts to being that aspect of yourself, you can truly birth something amazing as you journey through this life.

Stated simply, Be Christmas.
