On the Minister's Mind
Rev. Laine Morgan
I pray that your day of Thanksgiving is blessed in every way, and that the glow of gratitude we created together on Sunday has carried forward to this moment. In the spirit of simplicity, I share a lovely and perfect piece of poetry by a dear colleagues and ministerial instructor, Cynthia James. May it offer something meaningful to you this weekend as you celebrate this time of gratefulness for the blessings Spirit gives so abundantly.
Thanksgiving Poem: The Heart of Gratitude
By Rev. Cynthia James
In this season of turning leaves,
when the world slows its breath,
we are invited home—
back to the center of who we are.
Gratitude whispers
in the quiet corners of our lives,
reminding us that even in uncertainty
there is beauty to be found.
It rises in the simple things:
a shared smile,
a warm cup of tea,
a sunrise that asks for nothing
but our attention.
Gratitude softens the stories
we’ve told about ourselves,
opens our hands
to release what no longer serves,
and makes space
for grace to enter.
Today, I honor you—
your resilience,
your courage,
your willingness to evolve.
May this week wrap you gently
in warmth, peace, and possibility.
And may you remember
that gratitude is your compass—
a light that guides you
through every moment,
every season,
every chapter of your becoming.
Happy Thanksgiving,
beloved community.
