On the Minister's Mind

I came across this old riddle again the other day and it spoke to me -  

Five frogs are sitting on a log.
Four decide to jump off. How many are left?  
Answer: five.   Why? Because there's a difference between deciding and doing.

One of the greatest joys of my work is the coaching sessions I get to have with congregants and clients. It’s like I meet them on that proverbial log with all the other frogs and not only help with the deciding part, but also the practical application and the doing part. I meet people on “the log” where they are considering the lessons unfolding in their lives.

Thomas Leonard, one of the pioneers in the field of coaching wrote – “Life gives you messages and if you don't get the message, you'll get a lesson. If you don't learn the lesson, you're sure to get a problem, and if you don't handle the problem, you'll get a full-blown crisis.”

Throughout the summer, we have been opening ourselves up to new messages every week. We are exploring a variety of topics, teachers and concepts as we go. What is amazing is that each and every week someone shares a real situation in their current experiences that is right on topic. They are letting others witness them through a lesson happening in the current moment and the decision making process.

One of the reasons I offer a complimentary coaching session during the summer for participants is that I want everyone to handle their lessons before they become a problem, much less a crisis! So often, we can get stuck with the “frogs on the log” afraid to make a committed decision to do something new, right? Talking it through in a private session can sometimes make all the difference.

In coaching we gently explore the change that needs to occur, the pain that is asking to be released, and the decisions that need to be made. We can look at patterns that have grown unhelpful over the years, or even the conversations that are waiting to be had. Together we create a safe and loving environment for our souls to connect side by side.
