On the Minister's Mind

Rev. Laine Morgan

As a spiritual community, we are in the midst of our Summer Showers of Blessings program.  The word “blessing” means to “confer prosperity upon.”   Our focus is opening ourselves up to receive showers of blessings throughout these hottest months of the year!

Part of the program are two book studies  This month we are reading Spiritual Economics by Eric Butterworth.  In it, he writes that “You are always projecting some kind of thought toward everything you have or hold.  Sometimes it is negative, limiting, restrictive. But, you can bless your home, your job, or your money supply, and thus confer a consciousness of abundance upon them.”

The spiritual law of circulation teaches us that whatever we send out returns to us.  Therefore, we must send out thoughts of goodness when we want to receive more goodness.  When we manage our thoughts in this way, we are kind of showering ourselves with the blessings, aren’t we?

When you bless something, you project thoughts of appreciation and gratitude onto it.  What you appreciate will grow in your experience, so it is helpful to identify what you wish to grow and start appreciating those things!  Name them and bless them.

So often, we use our powerful spoken words, and the thoughts we think, to complain or worry as we share our anxiety and fear.  When we do that, the topics of our complaining and worrying grow in our experience, filling our moments with the very things we dread or dislike.  This happens individually and collectively.  If we want to shift our world or our lives in a positive direction, we must focus our minds on the details we enjoy.

Currently, it is very important that we use our thinking and speaking power to bless the world in which we live.  Pay attention to the people and things that enhance your life, and bless them!  In other words, focus your time on expressing gratitude for the ways life is supporting you and invite more support to come your way.   The more of us that can do that, the faster the collective blessings can start or continue unfolding.

So, if something is bothering you, find ways to bless the solutions that show up to counter that problem.  Doing so, you are shifting your focus away from the problem itself.  Bless the solutions with your resources – your thoughts, yes, but also your time and money and support.  And, give those blessings with JOY!  That is the only way out of the current problems you may have, whether they be global or deeply personal.

Every day, when you are completing your waking hours, notice what increased in your experience this day and consider how consciously you blessed the things that gave you greater joy.  Do that, and invite those very blessings to increase even more tomorrow!
