On the Minister's Mind

by Rev. Laine Morgan

As I think back on my lesson last Sunday about finding the things that are “juicy” for you in life, I remembered something else I wanted to share.  Everything in the world is juicy for someone, because that is the only way things continue to exist.

When more people pour their juice into a concept or an idea or a thing – it grows. And, when more people stop pouring their juice into things – they shrivel up and go away. We pour our energy into things by choosing them, thinking about them, talking about them, feeling emotions about them. Our focus is our connection.

Now, consider the power you have as an individual, and the collective power we have as a group, to lend our juice to things that matter and to withdraw our energy from things we wish to no longer be a part of the human experience.  This is what is meant by the phrase – “be for something and against nothing.”

Too often we give our juice and get “juiced up” by the very things we do NOT want in our lives. We find ourselves complaining about something or someone constantly, or objecting vehemently, or searching for more stories about those things that upset us or feel unjust or wrong. We can feel the energy rising inside of us as anger and frustration and we choose that type of juiciness to make us feel alive. Is that wise?

There is better life energy available to us in every moment. The Law of Sacrifice says that in order to have something new in our experience, we must give up something else. What if we sacrificed our addiction to the adrenal rush of anger and frustration, and welcomed a more satisfying experience of curiosity, joy and love? I believe we would feel healthier in our own bodies, and the world would shift in a positive direction too.

This would require us to withdraw our attention away from our frustrations and turning toward new sources of juice or life energy from other places or topics or people. Think of the things you deeply desire to have in your world, whether that be more peacefulness, plants or peanut butter, ponies, parties or positivity! Then, go find them in whatever forms and places they may be.  Start paying attention to the things you deeply desire in your life, and let your focus change.

Pouring our juice into things we want to grow is such a spiritual practice. And, when we do it, our lives just get better and better, richer and more rewarding. Moving away from things that want to steal our juice is part of the practice too.

We tend to surround ourselves with people who consume and pour the same juice that we do.  Look around and make sure you are with those who reflect your current preferred flavor of the juice of life!
