On the Minister's Mind
by Rev. Laine Morgan
There is an unmistakable buzz in the air this week and I felt it immediately on Monday when I was doing my early morning walk in my neighborhood – the first day of school! As the kids walked to the front to meet the bus, you could almost smell their new sneakers and backpacks and freshly sharpened pencils! They were walking with a pep in their step that I know probably won’t be seen again until the last day of school next May!
This time of year holds the promise of personal growth and expansion as our culture readies the newer generation for another year of learning. The invitation is for all of us to continue this annual commitment to education, regardless of our age. It is important to stay connected to life by refreshing our perspective with new ideas and concepts.
Someone once wrote - "School is a building which has four walls with tomorrow inside." Our spiritual center is also a building with tomorrow inside, and your own house is a building with tomorrow inside, but the basic message of the quote is that any place where we are learning is where our tomorrows are conceived.
What will you decide to learn in the year ahead? Life will most certainly provide some of your curriculum for you, but you can also consciously choose to hone your skills and expand your knowledge and experience in topics that take you in intentional directions. It’s up to you to either passively accept the lessons handed to you, or choose some of your own education.
Whether you focus on practical daily life skills, improve relationship strategies, learn some new technology, increase your financial acuity, or dive into expanding your consciousness and spiritual awareness in classes, I hope you choose to learn something interesting that shifts your life in a positive direction!
At our Spiritual Center, we are wrapping up our summer program, and the last “day of summer school” is August 22nd. I am counting on it being as fun and memorable as those final days earlier in my life, as we take our Summer Finale Sunset Cruise together that evening. But, we are already talking about what is ahead for the Fall.
It’s back to school time and I hope we get the same home room! Let’s keep learning together!
