Ernest Holmes was developing his spiritual self at the same time several other people were discussing “new thought” ideas. It was radical thinking at that time – because they were challenging the idea that there is one KING-like God that controls everything and must be worshiped to gain his favor. And if you don’t gain favor – you are doomed to an infinity of hell, pain, torture, and suffering.
Ernest grew from all these discussions, and several revelations became apparent to him. These revelations are now referred to the “Declaration of Principles” in the Science of Mind. When I read the Principles – it’s like I’m reading a profound revelation of power, responsibility, unity, and love.
It turned the traditional power structure of religion upside down. The Principles acknowledge that I have the power to create my world. And, while my decisions have consequences here in this plane of existence, I am still a perfect soul, never condemned. I am a piece of that infinite perfection – we call God, Universe, Oneness. That will never change – no matter what happens here on this plane of human existence.
I also have tremendous abilities that I could tap into. Deep down – I can know I am all goodness, all love, all perfectness, and all power. Once I understand that knowing – the other Principles come into play, such as the idea that I can create with the power of the mind. The principle that heaven is within me NOW – if I grasp it.
With the Principles – it’s easy to see that I’m united with all things. I am the Infinite One – all shoved into this fleshy human suit, experiencing my little corner of creation. But wait! There’s more! I’m also CREATING! I’m not only “experiencing”, I am creating!
I am a creator, experiencing my creation – which is also God’s creation, and the creation of all the other creators. I know that we are all unified in the original Oneness. But it’s more than unity. It’s a knowing that the Creator is personal to me.
Since I am a powerful individual creator – manifested at this moment as a fleshy human body, I can “connect” with the power that has always been mine to use. I also know that it’s a Universal Law (a must!) that what I desire/want/think – will become reality because the creative energies of the universe are working with me.
It’s difficult living in this fleshy human suit to constantly be aware of this greatness that I truly am. I am in a suit of individuality, of experiences that are localized. I’m also impacted by the “creation-ing” that others are doing. But all around me are reminders of my bigger connection to Creation. I call it intuition, psychic, visions, passion, and the feeling of LOVE. Then there are the teachers, leaders, ministers, prayer warriors – lighting a path for me.
My life has been touched by miracles. I have gathered wisdom from elders. I have listened. I have heard the voices and visions of something not visible on this earthly plane. I’m certain there have been many other events I have not even noticed – attempting to show me that greatness - of what we truly are. I have tasted this unseen power. And I cannot go any direction except toward more of it.
My favorite principle is this one: Self Determination - I believe in my own soul, my own spirit, and my own destiny; for I understand that my LIFE is GOD.
It’s uplifting. It’s empowering. It’s eternal. It’s expansion. It’s joy!
The writing of Holmes really lifts the curtain of my stage play – showing me all the possibilities that I am.
